Harry's POV
Before I even opened the door, I knew it would be her. The news we had received earlier told me that she would come. It had been so hard for me, the band. To lose someone so close to us that would affect our future forever. I still had red rings around my eyes. The pain seemed to never have stopped, and still hadn’t. I needed her now. Who cares about the time, the distance? I needed her and I knew she would be there. She always was.
But this time I knew it would be different. I had to be there for her too. There was still a part of me back then that told me that she wouldn’t need me, that she could be strong through anything, but that was what I was used to. She had always been stronger than me, and a part of me hoped that this would be no different. But never had anything like this happened before. I cursed myself for being so selfish. No. I had to be there for her this time. He meant as much to her, if not more, as he did to me. No matter how long it had been she would always need me. And I would always need her.
Before she had even had to knock, I had the door opened waiting for her. Her sullen face looking down at the floor, her hair hanging loosely over her pale face as she walked up the drive. She wrapped her arms around her body helplessly. It was only when she looked up, when I saw the pain in her eyes, I realised that those arms around her body should be mine.
Her eyes wavered over mine painfully, as a fresh tear ran down her face. She was standing right in front of me. I reached out slowly to touch her face. She closed her eyes and went to look down, the tears dangling from her eyelashes. I placed my finger under her chin, making her hold my gaze. Then two single words escaped her mouth with so much pain that I would never forget them.
"He's...gone." Her lip trembled as she spoke them, before she broke out into loud sobs. I quickly wrapped my arms around her, holding her tightly. I didn't need to say anything. I just held her there. I rubbed her back gently, trying to calm her down, not just for her sake, but for mine too. I needed to be strong for her, and I couldn't hold on if she continued like this.
She clutched at my t-shirt as if her life depended on it, crying into my chest as I stoked her hair. I held her closer to me, if that was possible, giving her comfort, but also trying to draw some from the hug.
I wondered why she felt so heavy, and it was then I realised that if it weren't for me holding her, she would probably be on the floor right now. Her legs weren't holding her up, and she had begun to shake uncontrollably. Placing her arms around my neck, I quickly picked her up and took her upstairs, while she still wept onto my shoulder. Tears stung my eyes as I realised what this was doing to her, how hard it was. No, you mustn’t cry, I told myself. Be strong, for her...
